"Vecernicek" {Little Evening Person}

Personal narrative about a young girl constructing anti-Soviet models of empowerment out of 1960s/70s North American television idols. Documentary footage was incorporated into "Vecernicek" using black and white archival footage of the 1968 Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia, which showed the mass resistance to the offensive action. This footage had in turn been broadcast on North American television in 1968. Juxtaposed against this are images of the female superheroes on late 60’s and 70’s US TV. The images that attracted me at that time were explicitly gendered and highly sexualized, and yet also magically powerful.
