Can "silence" be a medium? "Silence" has been used metaphorically in the discourse mapping the "immigrant experience" to suggest that the process of dislocation involves the loss of a voice, the erasure of a speaking body, and therefore a displacement or loss of experience and cultural presence. This project explores other possible meanings and experiences of the silenced world of exile, perhaps as a strategy of reistance. Within (the experience of) exile is a disturbance, a gap, a transition, a transposition which may offer another possible interpretation/translation of "silence". It involves a negotiation between the home that is no longer and the home that has not yet become real: an interaction between the you that departed and the you that has not yet arrived.
