"Imaginantion of Pain"
installation, 160 photographs,
chalk, red velvet
Libenska Synagogue, Prague, Czech Republic. Curated by Martina Pachmanova
Site-specific project interrogated the construction and interpretation of narratives, investigating history read as a system of narratives: letters, books, official documents, news reports, trial transcripts, photographs, etc. Each is a form of translation vulnerable to the desires of the person producing them. The act of translation, the movement between languages, between forms of representation creates new meanings.
The narrative written in chalk on the surface of the stairs changed everyday as visitors wore away the words. 160 photographs installed in the identical spiral staircases traces her steps through the architectural space and vicinity offering an alternate way of transcribing, transposing her story.
